
Central Railway’s Mumbai Division ran its first ever double stack container rake on June 20,2026 from JNPT to Sanjan Gati Shakti Multi Modal Terminal on the newly commissioned Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC), CR said in a statement on Monday. The multi-modal terminal at Sanjan is served by Sanjan station in Mumbai Division of Western Railway .
The 45 BLCM A/B wagon (Bogie Low platform Container Modified flat wagon) rake was loaded on 20.06.2026 and dispatched from JNPT on 21.06.2026. A total of 180 TEUs with a tonnage of 2544.07 tonne were loaded on this rake covering a distance of 232 KM via the DFCC western route.

Two more rakes of double stack containers were loaded from JNPT on 20.06.2026 in addition to the above. The details are as under:

The running of double stack containers directly from JNPT port terminals via the Western DFC will boost freight efficiency, reduce transit time, and enhance port evacuation capacity.
