ECoR FY26 performance: IR’s highest freight loading zone

East Coast Railway (ECoR) retained its position as Indian Railways’ (IR) top freight handling zone in 2025–26 (FY26).

ECoR registered its highest ever freight loading of 286.26 Million Tonnes (27 MT over the previous year’s loading of 259.25 MT). The zone alone contributed 17.1 per cent to IR’s freight loading of 1669.9 MT.

Earnings

In FY26, ECoR generated a gross revenue of ₹32,766.02 crore. ECoR earned ₹29,456.60 crore from freight operations in FY26 compared to ₹26,691.82 crore in 2024–25 (FY25) growing robustly at 10.36 per cent year-on-year (yoy).

Passenger segment

During FY26 ECoR carried 97.64 million passengers, generating ₹2,536.44 crore, as compared to 93.52 million passengers and ₹2,371.09 crore in FY25.

Route Electrification:

ECoR’s entire existing BG network in Odisha has been electrified.

New lines and multi-tracking

ECoR commissioned 108.28 kms of new lines and multi-tracking works in FY26. These included the following:

  • Suku-Koraput (11.16 Km) in Kottavalsa – Koraput doubling project: Commissioned on 19.06.2025.
  • Samal-Parabil (6.53 Km) in Talcher-Bimlagarh new line project: Speed trial done and GM authorisation received for freight traffic.
  • Parvatipuram-Donkinavalasa (36.06 Km) in Vizianagaram – Titlagarh 3rd line project: Commissioned on 26.09.2025.
  • Talcher Rd. Jn. – Kamalanga (7.04 Km) in Angul – Sukinda new line project: Commissioned on 15.01.2026.
  • Manabar-Jarati (9.21 Km) in Jagdalpur – Koraput doubling project: Commissioned on 09.02.2026
  • Jajpur-Jakhapura 3rd line (7.9 Km) in Bhadrak – Nergundi 3rd line project: Commissioned on 08.03.2026
  • Ladda-Jimidipeta (7.18 Km) in Vizianagaram – Titlagarh 3rd line project:  Commissioned on 10.03.2026
  • Karakavalasa-Shimiliguda (9.0 Km) in Kottavalsa – Koraput doubling project: Commissioned on 14.03.2026.
  • Parabil – Khamar (14.2 Km) in Talcher-Bimlagarh new line project: Speed trial done and GM authorisation received for freight traffic on 30.03.26

Track and MPS upgrades
Over 236 route kms were upgraded for a maximum permissible speed(MPS) of 130 kmph while 266 route km were upgraded for an MPS of 110 kmph.

Safety at ECoR’s core
ECoR, in FY26 did safety fencing of 536.545 km of in FY 26 besides carrying out Ultrasonic Flaw Detection testing over 28,146 track kilometres.

Track renewal works were undertaken extensively, covering 390 km of rail, 567 km of sleepers, and 544 km of fastenings. In addition, 239 bridges were rehabilitated and 64 bridge approaches strengthened.
