ECoR Official Statement: LTT-Bhubaneswar Express Derailment

LOKAMANYA TILAK (LTT)-BHUBANESWAR EXPRESS ACCIDENT BETWEEN SALAGAON & NERGUNDI STATIONS IN NERGUNDI-DHENKANAL RAILWAY SECTION, TODAY EARLY MORNING

12879 LTT-Bhubaneswar bi-weekly Express hit the rear Guard Van of a Goods Train between Salagaon and Nergundi Station in Nergundi-Dhenkanal Railway Section at about 0700hrs, today morning.

There is no casualty reported but 11 passengers suffered minor injury, 05 major injury and 8 passengers are given First Aid. 8 Coaches of LTT-Bhubaneswar Express were affected where 5 coaches got derailed and three coaches had minor displaced from the track due to the accident.

The injured passengers were taken to local Hospital and SCB Medical College Hospital at Cuttack by East Coast Railway by arranging Bus Services. Due to dense fog and was not visible during that time, rescue operations were greatly affected.

Accident Relief Train (ART) and Accident Relief Medical Equipment (ARME) Train with Divisional Officers from Khurda Road immediately rushed to the spot for rescue and restoration work and send the injured passengers to hospitals.  

ECoR had provided Helpline Number 0671-1072 (Cuttack), 0674-1072, 18003457401, 18003457402 (Bhubaneswar), 06752-1072 (Puri).

In view of this, the morning trains supposed to pass in the section were diverted via Naraj bypassing Cuttack Railway Station. These trains are 12880 Bhubaneswar-LTT Express, 18426 Durg-Puri Express, 12831 Dhanbad-Bhubaneswar Garib Rath Express, 58132 Puri-Rourkela Passenger and 68413 Talcher-Puri MEMU.

Commissioner, Railway Safety, South Eastern Circle at Kolkata Shri Abhai Kumar Rai, an independent organisation under Ministry of Civil Aviation will hold a statutory inquiry on 18th January, 2019 at Officer’s Rest House near Cuttack Railway Station.

East Coast Railway acknowledges with deep gratitude help of nearby local passengers and villagers who have displayed great humanitarian values and come to the rescue of injured passengers, even in dense fog. Special thanks and gratitude also expressed to local Police, District Administration, Ambulance Team and Fire brigade officials.

On Duty Station Manager of Nergundi Railway Station, Guard of Goods Train, Loco Pilot and Asst. Loco Pilot of LTT-Bhubaneswar Express suspended till further advise in connection with the accident.
