Electrification on 106 km Vijayawada-Uppaluru-Bhimavaram Route Commissioned

Electrification work on the 106 km stretch of Vijayawada-Uppaluru-Bhimavaram route has been completed and commissioned today.

Out of this, an 18 km stretch between Vijayawada and Uppaluru is single line while the remaining 88 km between Uppaluru and Bhimavaram Town is double line.

In all, 226 track kilometres of electrification was completed.

The completed work is part of Vijayawada–Gudivada–Bhimavaram–Narsapur, Gudivada–Machilipatnam & Narsapur–Nidadavolu doubling and electrification project, and is expected to cost Rs. 3,000 crores.

Work on the project began in 2011-12. Rail Vikas Nigam Limited is the executing agency for the project. Safety inspection by the Commissioner for Railway Safety was conducted on 19th and 20th January 2021.
