
Eastern Railway (ER) completed yard re-modelling works for the financial year 2025-26 (FY26) besides sanctioning of multi-tracking projects for capacity expansion on key routes.

Yard re-modelling works at five important stations, including Malda Town, Durgapur, Shankarpur, Pakur, and Khana were completed.
These upgrades are designed to eliminate bottlenecks, allowing for faster entry and exit of trains and significantly reducing the time passengers spend waiting at outer signals.

Additionally, ER commissioned four Intermediate Block Signalling works as follows:
- Sanjha Halt between Tikani and Dhauni,
- Punsia Halt between Dhauni and Barahat,
- Danre Halt between Mandarhill and Hansdiha, and
- Noapara Mahishasur Halt between Manigram and Mahipal Road.

Multi-tracking projects
Indian Railways (IR) has sanctioned ₹8,381.99 crore for eight multi-tracking projects covering over 454 km on ER’s jurisdiction.
This includes construction of 3rd and 4th lines on
- Dankuni-Baltikuri,
- Murarai-Barharwa,
- Sainthia-Pakur, and
- Pakur-Gumani
Other projects include
- Ranaghat-Krishnanagar 3rd line
- Bhagalpur-Jamalpur 3rd line
- Bhagalpur-Dumka-Rampurhat doubling and
- Ranaghat-Bongaon doubling
Surveys
ER has also sanctioned final location surveys for several new lines and doubling projects including
- Siuri-Nala new line via Rajnagar and Bakreshwar Dham,
- Arambagh-Khanakul new line,
- Champapukur-Hasnabad doubling and
- Lakshmikantapur-Namkhana doubling
FY26 passenger earnings
ER passenger traffic revenue grew 8.56 per cent year-on-year (yoy) in FY 26 to Rs.4186.07 crore.
Number of originating passengers in FY26 grew 5.56 per cent yoy to 1323.31 million passengers.
Digital Booking
ER’s push to increase digital transactions to reduce queues resulted in 83.27 per cent tickets being booked via digital mode in case of reservation-based ticketing. In the unreserved ticketing segment, it was 27.45 per cent in FY26.
