To maintain backend supply, Eastern Railway is running freight trains on round the clock basis to transport essential commodities in different parts of the country since the beginning of the nation-wide lockdown. The freight trains are carrying foodgrains, fertilizer, coal & mineral, onion, salt, iron & steel, POL, container, clinker, cement, ballast, ash, sand, stone, maize to cater to the demand of consumables and other inputs.
Eastern Railway has run a total of 265 freight trains on 13.7.2020 with breakup given as follows:-
Ash – 2 Rakes
Automobile – 3 Rakes
Ballast & Railway Material Consignment – 7 Rakes
Cement – 22 Rakes
Clinker – 4 Rakes
Container – 6 Rakes
Coal and mineral – 62 Rakes
Edible Oil – 1 Rake
Fertiliser – 8 Rakes
Onion – 2 Rakes
Maize – 7 Rakes
Petroleum Oil – 3 Rakes
Foodgrains & Rice – 4 Rakes
Sand – 2 Rakes
Salt – 1 Rake
Steel – 2 Rakes
Slag – 1 Rakes
Stone – 15 Rakes
Wheat – 3 Rakes
Besides, 110 empty rakes were ran out to different freight operating points to facilitate loading of essential commodities.
