Freight trains running at 90 kmph on the EDFC

Freight Trains are running at 90 kmph on the Eastern Dedicated Freight Freight Corridor (EDFC) on the newly inaugurated New Khurja- New Bhaupur section. This 351-km section was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 29,2020.

As on January 3,2021, 53 freight trains have been run on this section. Of this, 32 trains have been run between New Khurja – New Bhaupur (Down Direction) while 21 trains have been run between New Bhaupur – New Khurja (Up Direction). The best speed achieved in the DN direction was 93.70 kmph while the best speed achieved in the UP direction was
85.98 kmph.

Faster speeds translate into faster delivery of goods and faster turnaround reducing freight costs.

After the commissioning of this new section, Coal, Jute, Petroleum, Container, Iron & Steel and other minerals are primary commodities transported towards National Capital Region (NCR), Punjab and Haryana area.

Rice, Wheat and Food grain products from Punjab and Haryana area, fertilizer, steel, coal and loadable empty wagons are being transported towards Eastern India.

During the inaugural run, two freight trains were flagged off. They were 1.5 KM Long Haul 9400 Gross Ton trains.

The one in the DN direction between New Khurja and New Bhaupur was loaded with food grain from Mullanpur and Faridkot in Ludhiana, Punjab.

The other in the UP direction between New Bhaupur and New Khurja was loaded with Power House Coal from Churi Siding Ray, Ranchi, Jharkhand and Dudhichua Wharf Siding, Singrauli, Madhya Pradesh. On the return journey after unloading, the above rake achieved a speed of 90 kmph over DFC.
