Indian Railways signs MoU with RailTel for Phase 2 of e-Office Execution

58 units of IR were made paperless office by RailTel in phase 1

After the successful completion of the Phase 1 execution of NIC e office for  50000 users in 58 units, Indian Railways has signed MoU with RailTel, a Mini Ratna PSU under Ministry of Railways, for the phase 2 of the project. Sh Umesh Balonda, ED/TD, Railway Board and Smt. Haritima Jaipuriar, GM/IT project/RailTel signed the Memorandum of Understanding in august presence of Sh. Vinod Kumar Yadav, Chairman/Railway Board, Sh. Pradeep Kumar, Member S&T/Railway Board, Sh. Puneet Chawla, CMD/RailTel and other senior officials of Railways and RailTel.

In phase 2, RailTel will register 39000 users over 34 Railway divisions in NIC e office platform by 30th June 2020. Phase 1 of NIC e office execution started with a mandate to complete the work by March 2020. But with a lightning speed of execution RailTel completed the work way ahead of time and successfully created 50000+ users in 58 units of IR and trained the executive to handle the platform in a span of mere 6 months’ time.

NIC e-Office is a cloud enabled software developed by National Informatics centre (NIC) that is being deployed/hosted from RailTel Tier III certified data centres at Secundrabad and Gurgaon .It is based on Central Secretariat Manual of e-Office Procedure (CSMeOP).  Currently 4 modules (File Management System (eFile), Knowledge Management System (KMS) Collaboration & Messaging Services (CAMS) & Personnel Information Management System (PIMS) are the part of the e-office system being implemented

The biggest challenge in this project is to train and condition the Railway employees to use e-office platform rather than a manual filing system. RailTel has taken care of the aspect by training and handholding the users so that they can be fluent with the system and are able to adapt to it seamlessly.  e-office brings in absolute transparency as anything once written on the file cannot be changed or undone. Quick disposal of files and systematic, timely Monitoring of pending files are the other immediate advantage of NIC eOffice.

With the above advantages, Indian Railways will be changing the work culture for providing better services to the public.  e-Office fosters a paper-less culture which will not only save operational cost but also reduce the carbon footprint which is one of the most urgent needs of the world and directly impacting every citizen of the country.
