IR to invest ₹223 Crore on Kavach 4.0 over 614.75 km of NER’s Varanasi Division

Indian Railways (IR) has approved an investment of ₹223 crore on installation of Kavach Version 4.0 over 614.75 route kilometres of Varanasi (BSB) Division, North Eastern Railway (NER).

The approved project will extend Kavach 4.0 coverage across the identified balance sections of Varanasi Division, strengthening the safety infrastructure available for train operations.

The section details are as follows:

Kaptanganj Jn (Ex) -Thawe Jn

Thawe Jn-Chhapra Kacheri

Thawe Jn (Ex) – Siwan Jn(Ex)

Duraundha- Masrakh

Indara Jn-Phephna

Indara Jn-Dohrighat

Mau Jn (Ex)- Shahganj Jn (Ex)

Aunrihar Jn- Jaunpur Jn

Chhapra Gramin-Khairah

Salempur -Barhaj Bazar

Hathua-Panch Deori – 31.1-km

Ghazipur City -Tarighat – 8.7-km

Strengthening Railway Safety with Indigenous Kavach Technology

Kavach is an indigenously developed Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system designed to enhance operational safety. It helps prevent Signal Passing at Danger (SPAD), automatically applies brakes when required and supports safer train movement by monitoring train operations.

The approved work will further strengthen train protection infrastructure across the balance sections of Varanasi Division.
