Mumbai Central Station Gets Three Plastic Bottle Crushing Machines

Three Plastic Bottle Crushing Machines were inaugurated by GVL Satya Kumar, DRM, Mumbai Central Division of Western Railway on the occasion of Independence Day/

25 Plastic Bottle Crushing Machines will be installed at strategic and prominent locations of various stations to motivate passengers to dispose of plastic waste in a responsible & environment-friendly manner.

Western Railway has awarded the tender for 25 Plastic Bottle Crushing Machines on Non-Fare Revenue (NFR) mode. Apart from the three units already installed, the rest will be soon installed at Churchgate (04), Lower Parel (01), Prabhadevi (01), Dadar (02), Matunga Road (01), Mahim (01), Bandra (01), Bandra Terminus (02), Andheri (02), Malad (01), Kandivali (01), Borivali (02), Vasai Road (01), Nallasopara (01) & Virar (01) stations

The zone has already installed 17 Bottle Crushing Machines under CSR at various stations of Mumbai Division.

WR CPRO Sumit Thakur stated that if these Plastic Bottle Crushing Machines cost around Rs. 3,50,000/- per unit. So, WR decided to offer a scheme wherein Plastic Bottle Crushing Machine provider gets an opportunity to earn through the display of advertisements on as well as the sale of plastic flakes collected in the machine.

Besides, Western Railway has garnered additional revenue to the tune of Rs. 82,985/- (5 years earning potential) in the form of license fees, and has also saved the cost of procurement of these machines which will run into anywhere around Rs. 87,50,000/-

Yet another tender of 33 Plastic Bottle Crushing Machines at 23 stations is in the last stages of finalization, with revenue potential of Rs. 5,28,000/- per annum

WR also runs ‘No Plastic’ awareness campaigns from time-to-time to spread awareness about the ill effects of plastic on the environment.

This is in accordance with the Railway Board directives to reduce, recycle and dispose of plastic waste generated in stations in an eco-friendly manner.
