Mumbai Metro to commence two new lines-9 and 2B- tomorrow

Starting tomorrow, April 8, 2026, Mumbai Metro will commence operations on two new lines- Metro Line 9 (Dahisar East to Kashigaon) and phase 1 of Metro Line 2B (Mandale to Diamond Garden).

Commenting on the introduction of metro services on Line 9 and Line 2A, Sanjay Mukherjee, Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA and Chairman, Maha Mumbai Metro, said: “Step by step, we are moving closer to our vision of a fully integrated 337 km metro network and a ‘Mumbai in Minutes’ reality.”

What changes from tomorrow for the commuter

With this expansion, Metro Line 2A and Metro Line 7 will now operate as independent lines.

Earlier both line 2A and line 7 were operated together as a single line and formed an inverted U shape parallel to the Western Railway suburban corridor, with Line 2A running parallel to the western side of the corridor and Line 7 running parallel to the eastern side of the corridor, meeting at Dahisar.

From tomorrow, Line 7 will run in integration with Line 9, providing direct connectivity from Andheri East to Mira-Bhayandar. The revised schedule has higher train frequency aligned with commuter travel patterns.
