Parcel trains galore across IR

It is raining parcel trains across Indian Railways (IR) with all zones running them to keep the supplies of essential items intact during the 21-day lockdown.

South Eastern Railway is running Time Tabled Parcel Express Trains to ensure quick dispatch of essential commodities to maintain the supply chain intact in this crisis situation in the following routes:

·        Shalimar-Changsari-Shalimar

·        KSR Bengaluru/Yesvantpur-Howrah-KSR Bengaluru/Yesvantpur

·        Secunderabad-Howrah-Secunderabad

·        Kankariya-Sankrail Goods Terminal-Kankariya

·        Kalyan-Sankrail Goods Terminal-Kalyan

·        Karambeli-Changsari-Karambeli

·        Kalyan-Changsari-Kalyan

·        Godhani-New Tinsukia-Godhani

Kalyan-Hazrat Nizamuddin Parcel Train on April 8

Central Railway has already announced the running of parcel train from Kalyan to Hazrat Nizamuddin for carrying goods, parcels, etc.  Now this train will leave as per following schedule:

00107 Parcel train will leave Kalyan at 08.00 hrs on 8.4.2020 and arrive Hazrat Nizamuddin at 17.40 hrs next day. 

Halts: Igatpuri, Nashik Road, Manmad, Jalgaon, Bhusaval, Itarsi, Hoshangabad, Bhopal, Vidisha, Ganj Basoda, Bina, Jhansi, Gwalior, Agra Cantonment.  

Frequency will be increased if there is increase in demand.  In case full parcel train is loaded by a party at originating point the train can be run through enroute stations to reach parcels quickly to destination. If full parcel train load is offered by a party for any destination, CR will work proactively to provide the service. Services are valid upto journey commencing on 14/04/2020. This timetable may be modified as per requirement and any date as per demand. No passengers to be allowed to enter these trains.

Western Railway

Four timetabled trains were planned to run by WR with 18 trips between 31st March to 15th April, 2020 comprising 12 trips between Bandra Terminus & Ludhiana, 2 trips between Kankariya & Sankrail Goods terminal, 2 trips between Karambeli & Changsari and 2 trips between Kankaria and Chennai Central.

 Out of these, 4 trips of 3 trains have already departed in last 4 days. One is from  Kankaria in Ahmedabad to Sankrail goods terminal at West Bangal, two from Bandra Terminus to Ludhiana and one from Karambeli in Gujarat to Changsari in Assam have departed for their destinations as per their time tables. 

Western Railway through its Parcel Express trains carry commodities such as Milk Product, Edible Oil, Spices, Groceries and Biscuits, dry grass etc.

Since the lockdown period till now, from 22nd March to 3rd April, 2020, total 708 rakes have been used to supply essential commodities amounting to 1.48 million tonnes. 1802 freight trains were interchanged with other railways, including 882 trains handed over and 820 trains taken over at different interchange points. 

Fifteen Millennium Parcel rakes of Parcel Vans/Railway Milk Tankers (RMTs) have been sent to different parts of the country to cope up with the demands of essential items such as milk powder, liquid milk and other general consumer goods.

Eastern Railway

The total unloading & loading figures of April 3,2020 on Eastern Railway was as under:-

TOTAL UNLOADING – 41 RAKES

Coal & Mineral – 31 Rakes; Container – 1 Rake; Fertilizers – 4 Rakes

Wheat – 3 Rakes; Sugar – 2 Rakes

TOTAL LOADING – 27 RAKES

Coal  – 23 Rakes; Container – 2 Rakes; Steel – 2 Rakes

22 EMPTY RAKES were dispatched to different freight operating points for loading of essential commodities.
