Rail Wheel Plant cast 8,037 wheels in the month of December 2019, close to the installed capacity of the plant.
This outturn is 222 per cent higher than the three year average (2493) for the plant.
The earlier highest production performance was of 4,315 wheels in Oct 2019.
Bela achieved many firsts in this pursuit – 17 heats in a day on Dec 30, highest number of wheels (535) normalized in a day, besides highest numbers of wheels dispatched in a day and in a month.
Process
To identify bottlenecks and potential failure spots, it was decided to run the plant at full capacity.
An assured supply of melting scrap, was arranged in coordination with PCMEs and PCMMs across the country. Quality and supply of lime and refractory, state of machines were addressed by all officers and staff alike even if it meant staying overnight on the shop floor.
