
South Central Railway’s (SCR) financial performance in the current financial year was very encouraging according to Sanjay Kumar Srivastava, General Manager, SCR. Delivering his message on the occasion of the country’s 77th Republic Day, he said “ At the outset, I am happy to share with you that SCR’s performance in the current financial year so far has been very encouraging. History is created during the period with record performances in both passenger and freight segment.”

Business Performance
SCR registered a Gross Originating Revenue of Rs 15,579 crores between April and December 2025, an increase of four per cent year-on-year (yoy).
SCR’s freight loading crossed 100 MT mark in 257 days, this fiscal, its best ever. SCR identified 33 goods sheds for improving infrastructure out of which works at 15 goods shed were already completed during this fiscal.
Parcel Management system has been introduced at four locations during the April- December period taking the total to 42 locations across SCR.
In the passenger traffic segment, SCR carried 216 million passengers from April to December 2025, generating revenue of Rs 4,611crores, eight per cent higher yoy.

Safety
SCR completed track renewal of 643 km in the April-December period.
The zone eliminated 24 manned level crossings (LC) while constructing 39 road-under-bridges and nine road-over-bridges to strengthen both road and rail safety.
Nine LC gates were interlocked, 15 emergency sliding booms commissioned and 47 electrically operated lifting barriers have been provided. In addition, 105 bridges were rehabilitated.
The workshops of SCR during the April-December 2025 period did POH (periodic overhaul) of 2352 Coaches (target 2340 coaches). Similarly, POH out turn of 6,254 Wagons was done (target of 5,850 wagons).

Infrastructure
SCR commissioned Automatic Block Signalling on 435 route km to increase section capacity in high density routes.
As part of signalling upgrade on SCR system, 14 electronic interlocking systems, three Block Proving Axle Counters and nine new Intermediate Block Signalling systems have been commissioned.
For effective communication, “6Quad cable” has been laid for 84 route km and OFC cable for 108 route km.
SCR completed 30 km of doubling, 115 Kms of tripling and 2 Kms of bypass line in the April-December period. Doubling works were carried out between Panyam and Nandyal as part of Guntur – Guntakal project and between Basar – Navipet as part of Mudkhed – Medchal project.
Third line works were carried out across various sections of Vijayawada – Kazipet, Kazipet – Balharshah and Vijayawada – Gudur tripling projects. All these tripling projects are nearing completion and are likely to be completed this fiscal.

Passenger amenities
Between April and December 2025, 39 lifts and 19 escalators were commissioned taking the tally to 241 lifts and 100 escalators across SCR.
The latest Linke Hoffman Busch (LHB) coaches were inducted in 23 pairs of trains.

New trains
This fiscal, SCR introduced two new Amrit Bharat Express trains originating from Charlapalli, one to Muzaffarpur and the other to Thiruvananthapuram. Four new express trains- Tirupati – Shirdi, Tirupati – Chikamagalur, Kacheguda –Bhagat Ki Koti and Nanded –Firozpur were introduced.
In addition, five new Amrit Bharat Express trains and four new Express trains pass through SCR.
Energy efficiency
SCR commissioned 9.781 MWp solar panels this fiscal taking its total capacity to 23.2 MWp.
