Two trains collide head-on near Kacheguda, train services hit (Updated)

A head-on collision at about 10.40 hours between train number no 47178 Lingampalli-Falaknuma MMTS local and train number 17028 Kurnool City – Secunderabad Hundry Intercity express happened at Kacheguda outer.

The collision occurred at the spot as encircled in the diagram above.

 Four coaches of the local derailed. In addition, three coaches and the loco of the inter-city express also derailed. The loco pilot Mr Chandrashekar is said to have been severely injured. Reports from the ground said 15 people have been injured.

The accident relief train and Medical relief van are at the accident spot doing rescue work.

 The MMTS local train was exiting platform number 2 towards Malakpet while the Inter-city express was on the points moving towards platform number 4.

The motorman of the local train is reportedly trapped inside the driving cab and is being rescued by the use of gas cutters . (Update, 7pm IST: The Motorman was successfully removed safely from the mangled cab of the MMTS local train with herculean efforts of SCR, NDRF and local DRF teams after a 7 hour work.)

Prima facie, the reason for the mishap seems to be signal passing at danger also called SPAD in railway parlance. (Update : A preliminary enquiry to ascertain the same has been started and more information on the same would be available in a couple of days.)
