Workshop modernisation on Indian Railways gets boost, machinery and rolling stock procurement performance rises manifold

Indian Railways’ (IR) centralised advanced machine tool procurement arm COFMOW (Central Organisation for Modernisation of Workshops) has achieved its best ever output performance of Rs 1050.85 crore for the period up to January 15, 2019 said a statement released by the Ministry of Railways.

Performance for machinery procurement was up 97 per cent (year-on-year) to Rs 634.14 crore while performance for rolling stock procurement grew manifold at 128 per cent YOY to Rs 416.71 crore.

COFMOW procures plant and machinery for modernising IR’s workshops and maintenance of rolling stock (wagons, coaches, and local trains). IR’s modernising drive aims to upgrade its rolling stock and maintenance facilities, in line with the Centre’s National Policy for Advanced Manufacturing (NPAM) and Industry 4.0.
