World’s Largest Locomotive Producer Churning Out Hospital Equipment in Fight Against COVID-19

The world’s largest manufacturer of locomotives, Chittaranjan Locomotive Works (CLW), has diverted its efforts towards producing hospital beds and other equipment in the fight against COVID-19.

CLW has started producing the hospital beds and shelves as per medical standards. These are to be supplied to the nearby K G Hospital to create emergency quarantine facilities for COVID-19 patients.

To start with, CLW has produced 35 beds and 50 side-drawers for the hospital.

The manufacturing unit has just earned the distinction of producing 431 locomotives up to March 31st, 2020.

Several units of Indian Railways have begun efforts to prepare for a possible surge in COVID-19 patients.

Carriage and Wagon workshops in various zones have started work to modify hundreds of coaches for use as isolation wards for COVID-19 patients. These coaches can be moved to various locations as per requirement, especially in remote areas with low capacity health facilities.

Other units have busied themselves in the production of critical medical equipment and consumables.
