IR cleanliness survey results out: NWR, Jaipur and Andheri adjudged best in their category

North Western Railway (NWR) has been adjudged the best railway zone in the cleanliness survey report unveiled by Indian Railways (IR) on Wednesday.

Jaipur situated in NWR is India’s cleanest non-suburban station while Andheri in Western Railway (WR) has been selected as the best suburban station across India.

Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal released the report at a function organized in New Delhi on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, Goyal said “Indian Railways is doing its bit to provide a clean and hygienic environment to the travelling people. There is a need to value the change emerged in the mindset of common people. Cleanliness programmes are being conducted over 6500 stations to showcase the efforts putting in by Indian Railways to keep trains, stations and railway premises clean. Indian Railways has also banned single-use plastic across its premises today onwards. Indian Railways has started manufacturing LHB coaches only and these LHB coaches are being equipped with bio-toilets.”

How it was done

Stations, 720 in number across all zones were selected based on proposed earnings and proposed footfall (outbound passengers handled). They were then evaluated based on the cleanliness of parking area, main entry and ticket counter, platforms including foot-over-bridges and waiting rooms. Scores were given based on cleaning process evaluation, direct observation, citizen feedback, station manager interview besides the green railway station score [The green railway station scorer is based on five parameters-green cover at station, liquid waste management, solid waste management, energy management besides ISO and green certification]. The top 10 stations in the non-suburban and suburban category are given below.
