CLW Restarts Production, First Loco of FY21 Rolls Out After 49-Day Lockdown Gap

Indian Railways’ premier locomotive production unit Chittaranjan Locomotive Works (CLW) has now turned out the first locomotive of the financial year 2020-21. WAG-9H 32810 was turned out of CLW restarted work after a 49-day gap.

CLW opened its workshop with limited staff on 11th May 2020. The first locomotive was turned out on 14th May 2020.

CLW has produced 431 locomotives in FY 2019-20, surpassing its own previous record of 402 units in FY 2018-19.

The production unit has also contributed to the Indian Railways’ preparations to tackle COVID-19 by producing hospital beds and furniture. CLW also designed a remotely operated trolley for hospitals in order to protect hospital staff from infection.
