Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) inaugurated its first Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) train service on July 4, 2026. The inaugural run of train number 75679/75680, Agartala-Karimganj-Agartala MEMU was flagged off by Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Saha on July 4, 2026.
The train, which had been operating earlier as a Diesel Electric Multiple Unit (DEMU) service, has now been replaced and upgraded by a new Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU), following the electrification of the route.
The new Agartala-Karimganj-Agartala MEMU service will benefit daily commuters, students, office-goers, traders and tourists.
