ECoR’s settles dues of deceased Guard in 3 days

Setting a precedent to be emulated, East Coast Railway’s Khurda Road Division cleared the dues of a goods train guard who died while discharging his duty in three days (including Bank holiday on Jan 30, 2020) of his death.

The guard Late Prabhudutta Behera, who died on January 28,2020, was booked on duty from Khurda Road to Palasa on January 28.

When the Goods Train was about to start at Khurda Road at 0234hrs early in the morning after getting signal, the Loco pilot of the train didn’t receive “All Right Signal” from the on duty Guard Prabhudutta Behera. Immediately the Loco pilot of the train informed the same to Station Master.

At about 0250hrs early in the morning it was found that the on duty guard Prabhudutta Behera was lying in unconscious condition in the Brake Van. Immediately information was given to Rly Hospital. On reaching the Hospital, he was declared brought dead.

He is survived by bhis wife, two sons and a daughter. The divisional administration, while saddened by the death, decided to show solidarity with the bereaved family by ensuring the “Other than normal retirement settlement (ONR)” be fully made on 31st January along with other normal retirement cases.

Both the Personnel and Finance Departments worked in tandem to ensure that all settlement dues including Pension Pay Order (PPO) were handed over on January 31.

The Divisional Railway Manager, Khurda Road, Shashi Kant Singh, ensured that there was no system setback in processing the settlement case.
