Mysuru Division of South Western Railway celebrates 65th Railway Week

Mysuru Division, South Western Railway today celebrated the 65th Railway Week at Chamundi Officers Club, Yadavagiri, Mysuru. Railway Week is an annual event to commemorate the commissioning of the first passenger-carrying train on Indian Railways way back in April, 1853. This year’s event could not be held in April due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Rahul Agarwal, Divisional Railway Manager, Mysuru, the Chief Guest at the function presented the awards to the employees who excelled in their work during the year 2019-2020. While a total of 63 employees received the individual awards, 7 group awards (69 employees) were also conferred.

Divisional Railway Manager, while briefing about the performance of the division for the year 2019-20 said, “The division has won efficiency shields for Best Maintained Station Major – Mysuru Station, best maintained rake (Swarnajayanthi superfast express running between Mysuru- Hazrat Nizamuddin) the Signal and Telecommunications and Security departments bagged the Efficiency Shields on South Western Railway Zone. He congratulated all Officers and staff for this achievement. Apart from this 05 Officers and 44 employees of Mysuru Division awarded for their meritorious service by the General Manager.

The DRM also presented the other highlights of the Division such as-
(a) Nil Accidents except one yard derailment at private siding at AMSA,
(b) Division could achieve over all loading of 8.14 Million Tonnes for the year 2019-20 as compared to 4.644 Million Tonnes of the last year (2018-19) an increase of +75%. Recording the highest ever loading, breaking the previous record of 6.24 Million Tonnes in the year 2012-13.
(c) Amid major infrastructural and doubling works being carried out over the division, the division could achieve a sterling punctuality– Mail & Express at 85.19%.
(d) Originating Earnings – Rs. 844 Crores a healthy year-on-year growth of 29%
(e)Division transported 412.8 lakhs Passengers. (445.18 lakhs last year).
(f) 30 LCs were eliminated by way of construction of RUB/ROBs
(g) 05 Permanent Speed Restrictions were eliminated.
(h) Speed increased to 100 kmph on a total of 220 route kms.
(g) 48 kms of doubling commissioned on Tumkur – Hubballi on the Main Line between Tumkur-Mallasandra-Gubbi, Davangere-Amaravathi Colony-Harihar and Banasandra-Karadi.

(h) Train services
• 3 New trains were introduced connecting Shivamogga town with the neighbouring state of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu and Mysuru city.
• 1 train SBC-KVCL-SBC was extended upto Mysuru
• Additional stoppages were provided enroute for 2 trains
• Frequency of 2 train was increased.
Fulfilling the long pending demands of public representatives and travellers.

The following passenger-friendly works were executed during the year
(a) Mysuru Yard Remodelling was taken up and completed during the year 2019-2020. This work was pending since 2008
(b) Re-development of Mysuru Railway Station –an important Railway Board’s dash board work under soft up-gradation successfully completed.
(c) Quick Coach Watering at MYS and HAS reducing watering time to 5 minutes from 20 minutes
(d) Renovation & expansion of Rail Museum –completely re-engineered in a record time. This was a sanctioned work in 2008-09
(e) Making of Museum Malgudi at Arasalu station.
(f) Monumental Flags installed at all 11 District Headquarters.
(g) Construction of 4th Pit Line at Mysuru and extension of pit line at Arsikere.
(h) Provision of information about Mysuru station at click of a button, specific station website has been launched. www.mysururailwaystation.com
(i) 7 short-listed stations (Tiptur, Davangere, Nanjangud, Chamarajanagar, Hassan, Shivamogga Town and Kadur) illuminated with lux level ranging from 50 to 180 at Plat Forms, subways, waiting rooms etc
(j) With a view to providing visitors an opportunity to cherish the memories of their visit to the city as also to promote ‘Made in India’ products, a Souvenirs and 4 other kiosks have been set up in the circulating area of Mysuru Railway Station.

Staff Welfare initiatives:
(a) Air Conditioning of Running Rooms
(b) New Staff Canteens were opened with modern equipment at Mysuru Divisional office and at Arsikere.
(c) Railway sports ground has been provided with flood lights and a brand new pavilion. It has boosted the bookings and earnings.
(d) Fast tracking of grievance Redressal. All employee grievances are collected through Google forms with a single shared and monitored data base.
(e) Engaged 150 Ex-Servicemen.
(f) First on SWR to initiate and finalize engagement of technical supervisors/JTAs on contract.
(g) A record 1652 promotion have been given. This translates to 18.2% of the work force being promoted.

DRM Agarwal said that Mysuru Division with an aim to double the freight traffic and as per the directives of Railway Board has constituted the Business Development Units at the Divisional and Sub Divisional level and has been striving hard to increase its freight volume and coupled with ease of doing business.

He thanked the labour unions stating that Organized Labour was always giving constructive support to the administration for the smooth functioning of business of carrying freight and passengers in the division. Other employees, who have not got the awards, are not lesser in any manner and called upon them to dedicate themselves to achieving many milestones in future, he added.
