On October 7, 2026, an electric loco trial run was conducted between Chalkhowa (excluding) and Dibrugarh Town (including), a 6-km section situated in Tinsukia Division of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR).
On this occasion, the Office of Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Minister, Assam tweeted ” A key milestone for Assam’s railway connectivity as electric locomotive trial run reaches Dibrugarh Town, advancing the electrification of the region’s rail network.”
