Rational approach needed for new train halts: Goyal

Railway Minister Piyush Goyal on Friday said a more rational approach for creating new halts/stoppages for trains was needed.

Presiding over the Parliamentary Consultative Committee of MPs of the Ministry of Railways in New Delhi, Goyal expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for ensuring adequate rail project funding.

Goyal added that IR’s had improved in terms of safety, cleanliness, punctuality and infrastructure development. during the 2014-19 period.

 Work on all projects has progressed fast, Goyal felt adding that IR’s work culture had changed for the better with railwaymen working with passion and compassion.

According to him IR’s mission was to increase the freight and passenger traffic and increase revenue.

The Members of Parliament highlighted various issues such as construction of over and under bridges, doubling, passenger amenities at stations and on board trains, additional connectivity of backward areas by introducing new trains or extending the existing ones, fast-tracking of sanctioned works, medical facilities for passengers, proper utilization of railway land and use of solar power for locomotives.

Other suggestions made by members included rationalization of train fares, improvement of punctuality of goods trains and printing of price of food items.
