More than 110 MWp of solar power generation capacity will be installed on unused railway land in Southern Railway territory, according to a statement from the zone.

Southern Railway has identified 300 acres of vacant railway land and 160 acres of trackside land for this purpose.

Out of the 110 MWp, tender for 67 MWp has already been floated by REMCL. A tender for another 40 MWp is expected to be floated soon.

The zone has saved Rs. 16.64 crore in the financial year 2019-20 as a result of energy sourced from renewable sources, Southern Railway has claimed in a statement. Total wind power capacity installed by SR is 10.5 MW. Also, 4.74 MWp of solar power capacity is already installed.
