SWR Restores Shivathan Railway Station Up Line

Torrential rain in and around Khanapur region has seen a rise in Pandari river which triggered a mudslide near Shivathan railway station and Road No.4 at the station area beside UP loop line got washed out.  Though retaining wall at this location was constructed 3 to 5 months back, the rise in water level was so high that the track at Road No.4 got washed away.
To ensure quick restoration of track at his location monsoon Rake at Tinai Ghat station was moved to Shivathan station and essential materials like rails and Poclain from Londa.  Road No.4 at Shivathan was immediately suspended and monsoon rakes for restoration of Road 4 was dealt on Road no.3. One Rake filled with 40 no’s Rails, 01 BFR with Poclain machine and Motor Trolley with labourers was ordered from both Londa and Hubballi direction.

Shivathan Wash out location work was immediately taken up by restoration at the breach for a length of 70 meters x 20 meters width and 6 meter height where about 8000 to 9000 cum of earth had been washed out due to heavy flow in Panda river up to Road No. 4 UP loop line in the morning hours of 17.08.2020. Work of restoration started at around 11:00 am after mobilization of all the machineries, manpower, material and supervisor at site.  The embankment breach location were filled up with boulders unloaded from monsoon reserve rake and road 4 was restored on 19.08.2020.

Shivathan Station is not having any accessibility by road and thus mobilization of the manpower and materials for restoration was a very tedious and cumbersome task rendering it difficult to attend the restoration in incessant rainfall in the region. A batch of 60 no’s of contractual labourers, 30 departmental manpower, 03 contractual supervisors and 02 Sr.Section Engineers worked in 08 hours shift for the 24 hours.
