Railway Minister Shri Piyush Goyal flagged off a new passenger train between Murkongselek and Dibrugarh via videoconferencing from New Delhi on Tuesday.

Named the Sewa service, the new passenger train bearing number 55606 will leave from Murkongselek at 08-45 am daily to reach Dibrugarh at 12-15 pm. In its return journey train number 55605 will start from Dibrugarh at 01-15 pm to reach Murkongselek at 04-45 pm. The train will have sleeper class and general second class facilities.

Benefits

This train will travel via the Bogibeel bridge on the river Brahmaputra which was inaugurated in December 2018. The train reverses direction at Sripani. Earlier, trains had to go via Rangiya and Guwahati to reach Dibrugarh from Murkongselek covering over a 1000 kilometres. This distance has now reduced to about 120 km. As a result the travel time between these two towns has come down to three and a half hours.

The train will have stoppages at Dhamalgaon, Tangani, New Sisibargaon, Sripani, Sisibargaon, Silapathar, Archipathar, Dipa, Simenchapari, Telem, Laimekuri and Jone Karrang stations both ways. Regular services of the train will start from October 16.
