Hyderabad Metro to Hitec City might have to wait

The Ameerpet – Hitec City section of the Hyderabad Metro rail project will have to wait longer for approval. The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) has raised some objections over operations and signalling. The CMRS has recommended some changes in the inspection carried out over the past three days and the audit that followed.

These changes are expected to take at least a month to be implemented and tested. Inauguration of the section thus might have to wait.

According to sources from within HMRL, the major issue pertains to the fact that the section beyond Cyber Towers towards Raidurg is still under construction. Thus, there are no crossover points between Jubilee Hills Check post and Cyber Towers. This means that the 4km section will have to be run as dual single lines, with just one train at a time on each of them.

The original alignment was to terminate at Shilparamam. Changes were made later, and the line was proposed to be diverted towards Raidurg. The terminating loops and crossover points which were to be right after Cyber Towers now have been moved to a different location at Raidurg.

Owing to this, the frequency of trains between Ameerpet and Cyber Towers will be limited. For this, CMRS has recommended changes in signalling systems to ensure safe and congestion free operations.

More information will only become available when the final report is made available soon.
