NFR plans to achieve total route electrification by year-end

Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) plans to electrify its entire broad gauge network by December 2023.

According to a statement, NFR said it had already achieved electrification of 1788.6 route kilometers (RKM) or 41.13 per cent of its total network (4348 RKM).
Of the total electrified routes in NFR, 748.4 km is in Assam, 9.6 km in Meghalaya, 285.9 km in Bihar and 744.7 km in West Bengal.


For further speeding up the electrification works, Indian Railway Construction International Limited (IRCON), Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES), NFR/Construction and Central Organisation for Railway Electrification (CORE) have been executing the electrification works in a phased manner.

Some of the major sections being electrified include New Coochbehar – Golakganj – Dhubri (78 RKM) in Alipurduar Division; Simaluguri – Dibrugarh (97 RKM) in Tinsukia Division; Katakhal –
Bhairabi (84 RKM) in Lumding Division; Raninagar – Jalpaiguri – Haldibari (31 RKM) in Katihar Division and Helem – Harmuti – Naharlagun (79 RKM) in Rangiya Division.
