PM Modi to inaugurate rail connectivity to the Statue of Unity on January 17

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the newly constructed Dabhoi–Chandod-Kevadiya rail line project on Sunday, January 17,2021.

With this, the Statue of Unity at Kevadiya will be added to the railway map of India. [It is the statue of India’s first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. It is the world’s tallest statue with a height of 182 metres and is situated 62 kilometres from Vadodara on the banks of the river Narmada facing the Sardar Sarovar dam]

The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the newly electrified rail line section between Pratapnagar and Kevadiya besides new station buildings at Dabhoi Jn, Chandod and Kevadia.

PM Modi will also flag off off eight trains – Varanasi-Kevadiya Express,Dadar-Kevadia Express,Ahmedabad-Kevadiya Jan Shatabdi Express, Nizamuddin-Kevadiya Express, Rewa-Kevadiya Express, Chennai Kevadiya Express, Pratapnagar-Kevadiya MEMU and the Kevadiya-Pratapnagar MEMU.

Pratapnagar-Dabhoi and Chandod was a part of a two and half feet narrow guage section constructed by the Gaekwar’s Baroda State Railway,( a princely state railway) in the latter part of the 19th century. This was taken over by Western Railway post independence.
