Reports Again Claim Imminent Resumption of Services, Indian Railways Again Says No

The Railway Ministry has issued yet another clarification dismissing a fresh series of media reports. Several outlets have published claims that all pre-COVID-19 passenger services schedule will restart in April.

A statement by the Indian Railways has clarified that “no such date has been fixed for resumption of all passenger trains operations.”

More than 65% of the total number of trains are running and more will be added in ‘in a gradual manner,’ explained the statement.

Reports of a full resumption of services have appeared in various outlets for the past several months. So far, such reports have claimed full resumption in October 2020, December 2020, January 2021 and now April 2021.

The IR statement has cautioned all against speculation and assured the media and public that they will “be duly informed as and when such a decision is taken.”
