Doubling of Ambalapuzha-Haripad Section in Kerala Commissioned

Doubling work on the 18.3 km Ambalapuzha – Haripad section of the Ernakulam – Kayamkulam route has been completed and commissioned yesterday.

The doubling work was carried out in two phases. In the first phase of the work, a newly electrified track( Downline, Ambalapuzha-Haripad) was laid and commissioned in March 2020. For the second phase works, traffic through the old single line section was suspended and the track re-graded with the extension of LHS, wherever manned LCs existed. The upgraded track (Up line, Haripad-Alappuzha) has been completed and commissioned today

The route had twenty manned Level Crossings (LCs) on the single line section. With doubling, eleven manned LCs were eliminated by replacing them with nine Limited Height Subways(LHS) and two more were removed by connecting the access road to the adjacent LCs.

Doubling and electrification of the Ambalapuzha – Haripad section is expected to improve operational efficiency on the route. Train No. 06316  Kochuveli – Mysuru Daily Special was the first passenger-carrying train to run on the newly commissioned track.

  1. S R and SCR contribute major upgradation for railways. But CR is still lagging . For example, work Pune Shivajinagar and Hadapsar works even though it is small, no improvement has been made. Pune remadaling of lines is on the paper. ????????????
