Eastern Railway (ER) has successfully completed electronic interlocking works at Berhampore Court station under Sealdah division. The signalling upgrade replace older, manual mechanisms, ensuring faster train movement while significantly minimizing human error.

ER has integrated significant track and route expansions into the new setup. Three brand-new common loop lines have been provided at Berhampore Court to allow more trains to stop or pass through safely, featuring a Clear Standing Room of 594 meters for Loop Line 3, 377 meters for Loop Line 4, and 348 meters for Loop Line 5.

Alongside these new tracks, the Clear Standing Room of the existing lines has been lengthened considerably, with Line 1 increasing from 680 meters to 890 meters and Line 2 expanding from 564 meters to 807 meters. The number of available operational routes within the station has been doubled from 25 to 50, which directly enables the provision of simultaneous train movements through the yard.

The entire backbone of this modernized station relies on cutting-edge Signal and Telecom engineering to ensure absolute reliability. A new digital Electronic Interlocking system manufactured by NIPPON has been commissioned at Berhampore Court, which is paired with a Dual Video Display Unit system for master operators.

Safety and train tracking have been elevated through the installation of a Dual Multi-Section Digital Axle Counter system by M/s Frauscher featuring 48 detection points on the main line, while the loop lines are monitored by an integrated Multi-Section Digital Axle Counter track detection layout coupled with redundant DC track circuits for total failsafe protection. Physical track switching is now managed by 11 newly installed point machines, which allowed for the dismantling of 5 old existing motor points.

The central electronic interlocking hub is secured by a specialized Ring Earth grid, relies on 2 sets of Integrated Power Supply systems manufactured by Statcon Energia, and is fully armored against severe weather by an “A” class Surge Protection system inside the building to guard against lightning strikes. The infrastructure is rounded out by a Fuse Alarm system, an Earth Leakage Detector, an Automatic fire detection and Alarm system, and upgraded Level Crossing safety assets including new Electric Lifting Barriers at LC gate 129/E and LC gate 132/T, along with a brand-new Gate Panel specifically at LC gate 129/E.
