IR FY27 budget : Several new projects added to new line, doubling / multi-tracking /gauge conversion

Indian Railways (IR) has identified several new projects for construction of new lines/doubling/gauge conversion and multi-tracking to its existing list in the budget document for 2026-27. The zone-wise list of such projects are as follows:

Central Railway (CR)

  • Rahuri–Shani Shignapur New Line (21.84 km)
  • Pachora–Jamner with extension upto Malkapur (narrow gauge to broad gauge conversion listed under New Lines) (84 km)
  • Miraj Chord line (1.73 Km)
  • Additional Hotgi Byepass line (5.85 Km)
  • Doubling between Puntamba-Sainagar Shirdi (16.50 km)
  • Multitracking of Panvel-Chouk section (17.28 km) Panvel Chord Lines between Panvel-Somtane and Panvel-Chikhli (7.54 Km)

East Coast Railway (ECoR)

(Note: These appear in the 2026-27 list but were missing from the 2025-26 excerpt, despite carrying a 2023-24 PB tag)

  • Mahanadi Coal Railway Limited Inner Corridor phase-I Doubling (10.93 km)
  • Flyover at Khurda Road for trains from Puri end to connect the DN grid at Khurda Road (17.41 km)
  • Flyover at Titlagarh (8.11 km)

East Central Railway (ECR)

(Note: These appear in the 2026-27 list but were missing from the 2025-26 excerpt, despite carrying a 2023-24 PB tag)

  • Ara bypass line – Jagjivan halt to existing Ara-Sasaram line through link cabin (3.06 km)
  • Multi tracking of Son Nagar-Andal (374.53 rkm)
  • Y-connection between Kuju – Ranchi Road station (7.27 km)
  • ROR at Sasaram connecting GC to Ara-Sasaram Line (8.95 Km)

  • 4th line between Pakur & Gumani stations (18.48 Km)
  • Bhagalpur-Jamalpur 3rd line (53 Km)
  • Ranaghat – Bangaon doubling (32.93 Km)
  • Bhagalpur-Dumka-Rampurhat doubling (177 Km)

North Eastern Railway (NER)

  • Doubling between Katra & Ayodhya Dham stations (9.65 km)
  • 4th line between Burhwal-Gonda Kacheri (55.75 Km)

Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR)

  • Banarhat (India) to Samtse (Bhutan) (19.55 km)
  • Kokrajhar (India) to Gelephu (Bhutan) (69.05 km)
    Aluabari Road – Thakurganj Doubling (19.95 km)
  • Furkating-New Tinsukia Doubling (194 km)
  • Aluabari Road – New Jalpaiguri 3rd & 4th line (57 km)

Northern Railway (NR)

New rail line works across Indian Railways (Umbrella work 2026-27)

  • Chord Line between Alal-Himmatana (12.52 km)

  • 4th line between DLBS (Durg link block cabin)-Durg (3 km)
  • Gondia – Balharshah (Chanda Fort) Doubling (240 Km)
  • 4th Line between Dadhapara- Bilaspur (3.48 Km)

South Eastern Railway (SER)
