Come June 1,2026, the Indian Railways’ (IR) logo will have 18 stars instead of the present 17 stars in a circle (which represent the 17 railway zones). The reason: formation of IR’s newest railway zone, South Coast Railway (SCoR). IR’s present logo is in two colours- red and blue (see salient features of present logo below).
In a letter dated May 14, 2026, the Railway Board has directed all zones, production units, training institutes and all its Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) to adopt and use the revised Indian Railways logo with 18 stars in a circle (in red colour) on it, effective June 1,2026.

The Railway Board’s direction follows the creation of South Coast Railway (SCoR) (effective June 1,2026) as the 18th zonal railway. The revised logo has been approved by the Chairman and CEO, Railway Board, the letter said.
The revised IR logo will be used in all forms of communication such as official communication, stationery, publications, signboards, digital platforms, publicity material and other official applications wherever the IR logo is presently in use.
