Mumbai Chennai Route: 26 Km Washimbe – Bhalwani CRS Inspection Done, Line Commissioned

A key section of the Mumbai Chennai Route, between Washimbe and Bhalwani has been commissioned. Manoj Arora, Commissioner of Railway Safety C(RS), Central Circle, Mumbai inspected the newly constructed double line between Washimbe and Bhalwani stations in Solapur division on October 26 and 27, 2021. Arora inspected all safety and security related matters, electrification and signalling work.

The 26.33-km Washimbe-Bhalwani section doubling is part of the Daund-Gulbarga doubling project. The doubling work includes the construction of 65 bridges (1 important, 2 major bridges), three new station buildings at Jeur, Pophalaj and Washimbe besides a new electronic interlocking system at four stations.

With the commencement of this section, the erstwhile scissor crossing used for single line working at Pophalaj station has been removed. Train services have started on this newly constructed doubled section.

With the completion of the Washimbe-Bhalwani section, out of 224.91 km, a total of 196.43 km doubling has been completed. Work on the rest is underway. Shailesh Gupta, Divisional Railway Manager, Solapur Division, branch officers and officials of RVNL accompanied the CRS during the inspection.
