North Central Railway’s (NCR) Jhansi Division, successfully commissioned automatic signalling system between the 13.56-km long Hetampur-Dholpur section, on May 22, 2026. With this, trains can now be operated safely in close succession to one another, thereby enhancing line capacity of the section and improving train punctuality. Moreover, this technology will minimize the potential for human error during train operations, thereby ensuring greater passenger safety.

Under this project, the Electronic Interlocking systems at two major stations (Hetampur and Dholpur) were upgraded, making signal operations more precise and rapid—a significant achievement given the challenging terrain of the region. Additionally, 72 state-of-the-art track detection devices (MSDAC) have been installed in this section; these devices accurately detect the position of trains, thereby rendering the signalling system even more reliable.

Moreover, twelve existing signals have been upgraded to a 4-aspect configuration, and fifteen new 4-aspect signals have been installed. This ensures that loco pilots receive clear signals from a greater distance, leading to improved train speed management and control. With the completion of the automatic signalling work in this section, the entire stretch of the Delhi-Chennai main line route—specifically the Up and Down main lines within Jhansi Division, extending from Dailwara station up to New Delhi—is now equipped with automatic signalling.
