
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, dedicated to the nation, two important railway projects in Telangana at a function in Hyderabad on Sunday. These included three sections of Kazipet – Vijayawada 3rd line and a rail-under-rail bypass at Kazipet.

Kazipet – Vijayawada 3rd line project
The sections on the Kazipet – Vijayawada 3rd line project opened are Kazipet – Warangal, Nekkonda – Mahabubabad and Dornakal – Errupalem totalling 118 kms.
The approximate cost for tripling these sections is Rs 1243 Crores. The remaining sections between Kazipet – Vijayawada are already completed and opened for traffic except for Dornakal – Mahabubabad, works for which are in progress.
Benefits:
- Decongestion of the over-saturated Grand Trunk route connecting Northern, Southern, Eastern and Western parts of the country
- Increase in capacity and freight loading across the section
- Reduction in travel time and improved punctuality for long-distance trains

Kazipet Rail under Rail Bypass:
The Kazipet Rail under Rail bypass is constructed for a distance of 21 Kms and the approximate cost incurred is Rs 292 Crs. Kazipet is a three way junction connecting Secunderabad direction on one direction, Balharshah on the second side and Vijayawada on the third. Construction of Rail under Rail Bypass has been taken up at this junction for smooth handling of both passenger and freight train services in all the three directions.
