Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday dedicated to the nation the complete 2800-km Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) network via video conferencing from Vadodara, Gujarat. “We gave it momentum and demonstrated it by completing the work of the 2800-kilometer corridor,” PM Modi, said.

The Prime Minister flagged off freight train services from New Sanand (North), New Makarpura, New Umbergaon and New JNPT, Mumbai. The PM in his address detailed how separating passenger and freight traffic allows over 430 cargo trains to run daily, slashing a 30-hour truck journey to just 10-12 hours.

He observed how farmers across Eastern and Western India can now swiftly transport perishable goods – seasonal flowers, vegetables, and fruits- to larger markets reaching consumers and mandis right on time. He said that a single train journey carrying double stack containers efficiently transported cargo equivalent to more than 250 trucks straight from Mumbai.

Prime Minister also dedicated to the nation three important sections of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC) namely, New Sanand (N)- New Makarpura, New Umbergaon-New Saphale and New Saphale- New JNPT. These three sections cover 326 route kilometres and have been developed at a cost of over ₹20,700 crore.
