SCR Commissions 60 km Electrification on Umdanagar-Gollapalli Section of Secunderabad-Mahbubnagar Route

South Central Railway has announced that it has commissioned 60 km of railway electrification on the Umdanagar-Gollapalli section of the Secunderabad-Mahbubnagar line.

Doubling and electrification of the Secunderabad-Mahbubnagar line was sanctioned in 2015-16 for a total of 85 km at a cost of 774 crores. The Secunderabad-Umdanagar stretch was doubled and electrified earlier as part of Hyderabad’s MMTS Phase II project. Work on the remaining section between Umdanagar and Mahbubnagar has been underway since.

With commissioning of the Umdanagar-Gollapalli section, 25 kilometres of route doubling and electrification remains to be completed between Secunderabad and Mahbubnagar. SCR has not provided a timeline for the pending work.

Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) was the executing agency for the project. Commissioning of electrification on this additional stretch is likely to help reduce congestion, especially after completion of the remaining work.
