Standing Committee on Railways to Inspect Southern Zones Starting 3rd January 2020

The Standing Committee on Railways has planned inspection and meeting with officials of various Southern zones over four days beginning January 3, 2020.

The Standing Committee on Railways is a 33-member strong group overseeing affairs of the Indian Railways. The Committee is chaired by Shri Radha Mohan Singh and comprises of 30 other members.

The Committee plans to inspect IRISET – Indian Railways Institute of Signal Engineering and Telecom at Secunderabad followed by a meeting with top officials of South-Central Railway and CMD, RailTel.

At Tirupati, the Committee meets with GM, South Central Railway. Meetings are also scheduled with the Managing Director of Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation and the Managing Director of the Indian Railways Station Development Corporation, with the latter focusing on the modernization of Tirupati Railway Station.

The Committee then moves to Chennai to inspect and review the working of ICF with top officials including GM ICF. They also plan to check out on the last-mile connectivity to the CONCOR Terminal at Chennai Harbour PSCT. The day after the inspection, meetings are scheduled with GM/SR and other officials besides discussing the last-mile connectivity with Chairman and Managing Director, CONCOR.

The Committee proceeds to Bengaluru to inspect and have discussions with GM/Rail Wheel Factory on the functioning. Later, discussions on expansion of the network, doubling, electrification, gauge conversion, etc. are scheduled with the GM and officials of SWR.

The Committee concludes its work at Bengaluru.
