SWR commissions Almatti-Wandal double line

South Western Railway (SWR) commissioned the newly laid 9.6-km broad gauge double line between Almatti and Wandal on March 26,2026. With this, the full stretch between Gadag and Hotgi is now doubled.

The newly commissioned section includes construction of an important open web girder bridge across the Parvatikatti River consisting of 9 spans of 45.72 metres each. In addition, one minor bridge, one road- over-bridge (ROB) and other related infrastructure have also been completed.

The track has been laid using 60 kg/metre UTS rails on pre-stressed concrete (PSC) sleepers with adequate ballast cushion, suitable for a maximum permissible speed (MPS) of 110 kmph. Requisite signalling arrangements, station facilities and safety measures have also been provided for safe and efficient train operations.

Doubling will increase line capacity, improve punctuality and facilitate faster movement of trains.
