Western Railway Unearths Illegal Transport of Fake Cigarettes Worth 20 Lakh in Golden Temple Mail

Western Railway has stumbled upon shipment of fake cigarettes illegally in parcel vans of the Golden Temple Mail last week.

On 16th February 2021, five suspicious packages were detected during a check of the leased compartment of train 02904 Golden Temple Mail Special train at Mumbai Central station. These packages were without E way bill & Invoices. Approx cost of consignment ranges from 15 lakh to 20 lakh.

According to a press release issued by Sumit Thakur – Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, Vigilance department of WR has been conducting regular drive since 19th January, 2021 to detect irregularities in several trains.

In one of the packages, ESSE LIGHTS brand imported cigarettes were detected, with a total of 320 packets consisting of 64,000 cigarettes. These cigarettes were imported from Korea and were having similar batch numbers implying these are counterfeit.
