Western Railway, Rajkot Division has developed the ‘Smart RS Valve Simulator’ powered by Artificial Intelligence to provide modern and realistic training to Loco Pilots and Assistant Loco Pilots, closely replicating actual railway operations. This state-of-the-art simulator is expected to significantly enhance their operational efficiency, alertness, decision-making ability, and safety awareness.
Giriraj Kumar Meena, Divisional Railway Manager, Rajkot Division, said, ” Rajkot Division is giving the highest priority to railway safety and operational excellence through innovation and modern technologies. The ‘Smart RS Valve Simulator’ will provide realistic training to Loco Pilots and Assistant Loco Pilots, strengthening their decision-making ability, alertness, response skills, and confidence.”
The simulator makes training highly realistic through videos of actual railway routes and an AI-based real-time signal control system. It can simulate various operating conditions, including day time, night time, rainfall, and dense fog, enabling loco pilots to prepare effectively for challenging real-life situations.
It provides training in real operational scenarios such as cattle run over, human run over cattle collisions, person-hit incidents, yellow and double yellow speed restriction indicators, and Signal Passed At Danger (SPAD) situations.
The simulator helps improve the reaction time, braking skills, speed regulation, and signal compliance of Loco Pilots while enhancing their ability to make quick and accurate decisions during emergencies. After each training session, an automated performance report is generated, enabling instructors to identify deficiencies and make the training process even more effective.
The system offers safe and cost-effective training without posing any operational risk. It enhances the confidence of Loco Pilots, enables trainers to accurately assess the performance of each trainee, and plays a vital role in ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient railway operations.
