
The Gwalior Light Railway also called the Scindia State Railway was a 121.92- mile long two feet narrow gauge line between Gwalior and Sheopur Kalan owned by the Gwalior Durbar.

The working of trains and traffic of the Gwalior Light Railway was done by Great Indian Peninsula Railway Company (GIPR) until June 30, 1913.

The original narrow gauge alignment was via Ghosipura Motijheel and Milavali to Bamourgaon while the gauge converted broad gauge line veers away from Rayaru on Gwalior-Dholpur BG section directly to Bamourgaon.

Details of construction
The permanent way consisted of 30,36 and 41 ¼ lb, flat footed steel rails laid on steel trough sleepers and wooden sleepers.

The line was fully ballasted through with broken stone, sand and moorum. The line was not fenced.

The ruling gradient on the Gwalior Sheopur Kalan line was 1 in 80 ( a 1- metre rise in altitude for every 80 metres travelled).

The sharpest curve in station yards had a radius of 250 feet and the sharpest curve out of stations had a radius of 287 feet.

Suburban NG lines inside Gwalior City
In addition, there were a couple of suburban lines built inside the city of Gwalior. One of them was Kampoo Kothi which served as a suburban terminus (see map) and was connected to Gwalior Junction by a 3.25 mile long NG line. The other line was a 1.65 mile long NG line up to Morar Cantt extension.
