CR: Tie-Up with Amazon to Transport Consignments by Local Trains

Central Railway to transport local consignments by suburban trains

Central Railway will now venture into transportation of local consignments by suburban trains. Central Railway’s Mumbai Division will tie up with M/s Amazon India Seller Pvt Ltd to transport their local consignments by suburban trains between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and Kalyan.

This proposal is in line with a similar proposal already in force on Eastern Railway. This transportation will be carried out during non-peak hours so that passenger traffic remains undisturbed.

A total of 8 tonnes of luggage will be transported from Kalyan to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and back (4 tonnes each trip) everyday from 11.00 hrs to 16.00 hrs. The maximum load per trip will be 1 ton.

Two escorts will be permitted to travel with the consignments whose fares will be collected in advance. This will be a point to point service and no loading or unloading enroute will be done.

This will start as a trial for 3 months and is expected to fetch a revenue of Rs.6.10 lakhs for 3 months.
