CR’s Nagpur division commissions distributed electronic interlocking system at Sewagram

Central Railway (CR), Nagpur Division, on June 7, 2026 successfully commissioned a KYOSAN make Distributed Electronic Interlocking (EI) System at Sewagram railway station. The commissioning was carried out in connection with the complex yard remodelling works undertaken as part of the third and fourth line project and the modernization of signalling infrastructure.

The project involved the replacement of the 26-year-old Siemens Panel Interlocking (PI) system with a modern Distributed Electronic Interlocking system, resulting in substantial improvements in the reliability, maintainability, and operational efficiency of both indoor and outdoor signalling equipment.

As part of the yard remodelling, two Ground Frame (GF) points have been eliminated, thereby enhancing operational safety and reducing manual intervention. Additionally, UDL-1 and UDL-3 lines have been provided to improve traffic handling capacity and operational flexibility.

The remodelling has also led to a significant enhancement in the Crossing Station Receiving (CSR) capacities of various lines:

Up Loop Line CSR increased from 705 metres to 780.181 metres, an increase of 75.181 metres.
Down Main Line CSR increased from 585 metres to 926.212 metres, an increase of 342.212 metres.
Up Loop Line CSR increased from 698 metres to 780 metres, an increase of 82 metres.
Up/Down Common Loop Line CSR has been improved to 854 metres.
Down Loop Line CSR has been improved to 835.902 metres.

The re-modelled yard configuration and advanced signalling system will facilitate the handling of longer trains, improve operational efficiency, and support the growing transportation requirements of both passenger and freight traffic besides ensuring safe train operations.
