History of Yamuna bridge at Prayagraj

This bridge is a vital artery of the Indian Railway network, serving as a crucial link connecting Prayagraj to major metropolises like Kolkata, Chennai, and Mumbai.

It was built by the East Indian Railway and opened for traffic on August 15,1865 as a single line bridge. It was upgraded to a double line bridge in the year 1911. Re-girdering of the double line bridge happened in 1929. The bridge has two decks – trains run on the top deck and road traffic on the bottom deck.

This renovation will ensure safer and faster train operations on this high density rail traffic section in the future.
