NFR’s October freight number up 32.35 per cent

Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) unloaded 1035 freight trains  during the month of October 2020.

This is 32.35 per cent more than the unloading done during the corresponding month of last year (782 freight rakes were unloaded in NFR during October 2019).

Overall, 5745 inbound freight trains were unloaded since March 25 until October 31, 2020.

Goods such as like rice, sugar, salt, edible oil, POL, food grains, fodder, pulses, fertilizer, cement, coal, stone chips,  iron and steel, potato, onion, sand, gypsum, maize, pulses, auto, and containers were being transported regularly.

During October, in Assam 559 rakes of freight carrying trains were unloaded of which 332 were loaded with essential commodities. 27 rakes in Nagaland, 72 rakes in Tripura, 6 rakes in Manipur, 5 rakes in Mizoram and 3 rakes in Arunachal Pradesh were also unloaded during last month. 202 freight rakes in West Bengal and 161 freight rakes in Bihar were also unloaded during last month within the jurisdiction of NFR to meet the requirement of people of these regions.

In Assam area 92 rakes loaded with food items, 71 rakes of cement, 54 rakes of automobiles, 19 rakes of sugar, 43 rakes of fertilizer and 59 rakes of petroleum products were unloaded. In Tripura 59 rakes of Food items, 39 rakes of stone, 1 rake of sugar, 3 rakes of automobiles and 1 rake of fertilizer were unloaded.

In Arunachal Pradesh 2 rakes of food grains and 1 rake of petroleum products were unloaded. In Manipur 2 rakes loaded with food grains , 3 rakes of cement were unloaded. In Mizoram 5 rakes loaded with food grains  were unloaded. In Nagaland 10 rakes of food grains, 5 rakes of petroleum products and 2 rakes of cement were unloaded during last month.   

In Bihar portion of NFR 58 rakes of cement, 34 rakes of Food items, 19 rakes of fertilizer, 12 rakes of salt and 3 rakes of sugar, 22 rakes of stone were unloaded. In North Bengal portion of NFR 46 rakes of Food items, 66 rakes of cement, 31 rakes of fertilizer, 2 rakes of salt, 9 rakes of sugar and 24 rakes of  Petroleum products were unloaded.

Improved terminal handling facility and improvement in mobility due to enhanced maintenance efforts and continuous monitoring at all level resulted in reduction in turnaround time and increased unloading. Average speed of goods carrying trains in NFR also increased.
