In a step forward for the proposed Mumbai–Nashik-Nagpur High Speed Rail network, the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited has invited bids for initial survey work along the proposed alignment of the line.

NHSRCL’s tender for Survey, Identification of Overhead, Over Ground, Underground Utilities And Identification Of Power Sourcing Options for substations Along The Proposed Mumbai-Nasik-Nagpur High Speed Rail Corridor was posted today. Last date for submission of bids is 29th September 2020.

The Mumbai-Nashik-Nagpur corridor is expected to be approximately 750 kilometres long. It is one of seven new high-speed rail corridors planned to connect key urban centres in India. The other important routes are Ahmedabad-Delhi, Delhi-Varanasi, Mumbai-Hyderabad, Mysuru-Bengaluru-Chennai and Varanasi-Kolkata.

While preparatory work on the new routes gets going, the Mumbai–Ahmedabad High Speed Rail Line has hit a land acquisition hurdle. Vinod Kumar Yadav, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Railway Board recently admitted that land acquisition issues have delayed the project further.

Only 23% of land has been acquired in Maharashtra so far, he admitted in a recent press conference. He also declined to provide a concrete timeline for the completion of the project for another three to six months.
